TIZIANO BONANNI

( Florence 1967 )

Tiziano Bonanni comes from an ancient family, remembered with honour in the splendid era of the Florentine comunes by a coat-of-arms depicting a black cat passing against a gold background and the heraldic motto “neque sol per diem, neque luna per noctem”, with origins tracing back to the Princes of Linguaglossa in Caltagirone in the 11th century: The coat-of-arms passed into history in the 16th century during the domination of Carlo V and the Spanish Princes of the Austrian House with the fiefdoms of Crecchio, Castelnuovo and Ocre in Abruzzo, where the family were lords in power until 1806, when the new Constitutions of Europe made feudalism extinct in Italy. A branch is represented by Tiziano, Loredano, Guido, Sabatino and Cesare.

Biographical notes

Artist and teacher, he works as a painter, sculptor, graphic artist and designer. Among the most outstanding works of Italian art on the experimental image, he is considered to be one of the main contemporary Tuscan masters at this multifaceted and transversal paths in many fields of knowledge for the purpose of an authentic dialogue between human nature and the universe that contains and nourishes it, between humanistic philosophy and postmodernism, between human genius and artificial intelligence: http://www.italianinsider.it/?q=node/7331

In 1984, he received the Diploma of Master of Art in the Painting Department, at the State Art Institute of Florence where, in 1986, he graduated once again from the Biennial Course in the same department. The State Art Institute of Florence, today Artistic High School, was born in the 1869 as a carving school, transformed in 1919 into the Royal Industrial Art Institute. From 1924, the Institute is located in the premises that housed the royal stables of the royal palace Palazzo Pitti just outside of Porta Romana, in the middle of a park that borders on the Boboli’s Garden. Inside the school, the Gipsoteca was placed, one of the most important plaster casts in the world with over 3,000 sculptural masterpieces from the fourteenth to the twentieth century.
Numerous artists who have studied or taught in the Institute over the years; among the most famous names of art, fashion and entertainment are Libero Andreotti, Gino Coppedè, Giovanni Michelucci, Bruno Innocenti, Giuliano Vangi, Sandro Chia, Roberto Cavalli, Enrico Coveri, Franco Zeffirelli.
In 1990, he completed his Painting studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, graduating and receiving his diploma.
The Academy of Fine Arts of Florence it is a very prestigious cultural institution, the oldest in the world for dating, which had Michelangelo Buonarroti as its first president; in 1872 the David was also brought to his honor while the Academy was concerned with providing a copy to be exhibited in Piazza della Signoria. The current educational institution was founded in 1784 by a reform wanted by Pietro Leopoldo to develop a modern arts teaching institute. The history of the Academy has among its foreign teachers also famous masters of art among which Jacques Louis David, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres is Johann Friedrich Overbeck.
Among the twentieth century Italian masters who have taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, they appear Galileo Chini, Giovanni Duprè, Giovanni Fattori, Telemaco Signorini, Silvestro Lega, Primo Conti, Ottone Rosai and many other artists of the avant-gardes and neo-avant-gardes of international fame who, on the other hand, worked at the Accademia.
In 1992, he received a prestigious award from Rita Levi Montalcini during an exhibition event for charity held at the Villa La Petraia in Florence.
In the years to follow, he was a fashion designer for Odalik, Giardini di Porto Cervo, Haute Couture jewellery.
In 1997, he became founder and artistic director of the art school, Rossotiziano Scuola d’Arte in Scadicci, Florence. In 2014, he graduated from Level II of the two-year Visual Arts and New Expressive Languages Painting Course, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence.

Athlete, former champion of Italy of judo, member of the National Association of Olympic and Blue Athletes of Italy, he has drawn inspiration from martial disciplines, merging them with his humanistic roots to achieve quality in every activity of life and art as principle of excellence. The relationship between art and judo is a dialogue that always exists in the artistic research that appears in the form of conceptual aspects that are translated into a form of art or, sometimes, used as expressions of thoughts and ideas. The strong bond with Florence has always been reflected in his style and in his private life. The artist was a part of the historical traditions of his city; he was a kicker in the white part for the district of S. Spirito in the game of football in livery from 1985 to 1989.

For various reasons, he has known such illustrious figures in the field of culture, art, cinema and entertainment as:
Bruno Munari, Mario Luzi, Renzo Federici, Pier Niccolò Berardi, Mina Gregori, Rossana Bossaglia, Pierre Restany, Nicola Micieli, Grazia Chiesa, Achille Bonito Oliva, Vittorio Sgarbi, Tiziano Forni, Pietro Annigoni, Rita Levi Montalcini, Franco Zeffirelli, Oriana Fallaci, Carlo Verdone, Nino Manfredi, Grace Jones, and John Malkovich.

SUMMARY OF ARTISTIC RESEARCH

Outsider to discover new visual languages of the contemporary, focuses his interests on the concept of identity: from the fall of the Berlin Wall and the totalitarian regimes, to the end of the 80s of the twentieth century, to the great economic recessions of the second millennium, the international terrorism, the great social transformations linked to globalization, the creation and development of artificial intelligence up to the present days. In the early 1990s the spatial arrangement of the fifteenth century evolved towards more tense and unstable contemporary dimensions that reflect not only the need for stylistic and existential independence but also a protest against the historical situation of the time of the war in Yugoslavia, the Srebrenica massacre and the siege of Sarajevo, the beginning of the Intifada in the Middle East; the paintings of this period are full of figures forced into prison conditions, closed within narrow spaces such as cages or boxes, often accompanied by legible messages stamped on the bottom. This textual messages will maintain their presence in many different ways up to the most recent artistic tendencies, losing their significance over time until they become incomprehensible traces without a voice. With the beginning of the 21st century and the collapse of the Twin Towers, the invasion in Iraq with the II Gulf War, the prolonged bloody terrorist attacks in Europe by Al – Quaida, the traditional instruments of painting are insufficient to express the events with the necessary strength and intensity , therefore, comes the need to use some unusual materials such as dried brambles, animal bones, butterflies, beetles, ropes, nails or barbed wire to make compositions and paintings – structured plastics; representative of this period is a collection of twelve crosses, each cross tells a story of a contradictory humanity, adrift, suspended between good and evil.

From this path of experimental research of materials a wider vision of the visual language will emerge, where the boundaries between painting and sculpture and abstraction fade to express the thoughts that become tangible through structured works with scrap objects as residuals of neon signs, rudders, or even trunks as testimonies resuscitated by a very recent past, as if to suggest a curious circularity of time; as the tributes to cinematographic or literary quotations as in the case of “Leather, all the rest does not count”, a personal thematic exhibition event was held at the Studio Rosai in Florence, 2014.

The last artistic research is configured in a personalized style called GENS (acronym for Generative Stratifications Style), the result of a long research of new visual languages of the modern time, which uses stratifications, combustions and sequential actions of various types of materials to obtain plastic works called “transitions”. That means that the image is structured and decomposed according to the observer’s point of view: these works also show the use of recycling as a virtuous principle that generates artistic value through waste. According to other art movements that have used similar methodologies with recycled materials, GENS does not pile up or curb on the surface of residual objects, it approaches to them in a linear and descriptive way, without using the waste as pure signifying element but rendering it as a part of the work, transforming element that acts as a connection between thought and action into something material tat exists somewhere between aesthetics and function, so that the final work is a tangible expression of a thought that can be physically touched and something that manifests itself from the set of different elements for the nature that form a single body for the dynamic communication in space.

GENS STYLE is registered in copyright at:

TIZIANO BONANNI

( Firenze 1967 )

Sviluppa progetti aziendali plurifunzionali all’ interno di Enti pubblici e privati, incrementando i processi produttivi attraverso l’ intuizione artistica.
Bruno Munari, Mario Luzi, Renzo Federici, Pier Niccolò Berardi, Mina Gregori, Rossana Bossaglia, Pierre Restany, Nicola Micieli, Grazia Chiesa, Achille Bonito Oliva, Vittorio Sgarbi, Tiziano Forni, Pietro Annigoni, Rita Levi Montalcini, Franco Zeffirelli , Oriana Fallaci, Carlo Verdone, Nino Manfredi, Grace Jones, John Malkovich .

Note critiche

( Fabio Norcini, 2014 )

TIZIANO BONANNI

( Florence 1967 )

An Italian artist, he works as a freelance painter, sculptor, graphic artist and designer.

Tiziano Bonanni comes from an ancient family, remembered with honour in the splendid era of the Florentine comunes by a coat-of-arms depicting a black cat passing against a gold background and the heraldic motto “neque sol per diem, neque luna per noctem”, a seal of the family’s Christian loyalty, with origins tracing back to the Princes of Linguaglossa in Caltagirone, a fief that supported the war effort of the Crusades already in the 11th century.

The coat-of-arms passed into history in the 16th century during the domination of Carlo V and the Spanish Princes of the Austrian House with the fiefdoms of Crecchio, Castelnuovo and Ocre in Abruzzo, where the family were lords in power until 1806, when the new Constitutions of Europe made feudalism extinct in Italy. A branch is represented by Loredano, Guido, and Sabatino.

Biographical notes

In 1984, he received the Diploma of Master of Art in the Painting Department, at the State Art Institute of Florence where, in 1986, he graduated once again from the Biennial Course in the same department. In 1990, he completed his Painting studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, graduating and receiving his diploma.

In 1992, he received a prestigious award from Rita Levi Montalcini during an exhibition event for charity held at the Villa La Petraia in Florence.

In the years to follow, he was a fashion designer for Odalik, Giardini di Porto Cervo, Haute Couture jewellery.

In 1997, he became founder and artistic director of the art school, Rossotiziano Scuola d’Arte in Scandicci, Florence.

In 2014, he graduated from Level II of the two-year Visual Arts and New Expressive Languages Painting Course, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence.

Teacher and Artist, he carried out his research independently, using his own methodology to increase creativity with as few technological aids as possible, recovering forgotten materials and techniques. He develops multidisciplinary corporate projects within public and private institutions, enhancing production processes through artistic intuition.

In keeping with his humanistic roots, he created GenS (Generative Stratification) an acronym coined by the artist to define a personalized style resulting from lengthy research into the visual languages of contemporary art; GenS, with its essentially sculpting-painting roots, differs from all other stylistic languages due to a series of actions on materials that generate more or less recognizable images through synthetic traces, the sedimentation of the material, assemblies, combustion and various types of actions.

Despite the fact that in his artistic research, he has deliberately chosen not to necessarily fit into a market that justifies its purposes, visibility and approval of the public, art as a consciousness of being and representing remains his only profession.

His works are in public and private collections all over the world.

He is an athlete, a former Italian judo champion, a member of the Italian National Olympic Athletics Association and Azzurri of Italy A. N. A. O. A. I. He is a martial arts expert and passionate about Japanese culture through having been in contact for many years with great judo masters. He has drawn inspiration from the great Oriental discipline by blending it with his humanistic roots to achieve quality in every activity of life and art as a principle of excellence.

He has been a player in Florence’s historic football matches, Calcio Storico, from 1985 to 1989 for the white team of the Santo Spirito neighbourhood.

For various reasons, he has known such illustrious figures in the field of culture, art, cinema and entertainment as:

Bruno Munari, Mario Luzi, Renzo Federici, Pier Niccolò Berardi, Mina Gregori, Rossana Bossaglia, Pierre Restany, Nicola Micieli, Grazia Chiesa, Achille Bonito Oliva, Vittorio Sgarbi, Tiziano Forni, Pietro Annigoni, Rita Levi Montalcini, Franco Zeffirelli, Oriana Fallaci, Carlo Verdone, Nino Manfredi, Grace Jones, and John Malkovich.

What the critics say

His works are permeated with a sentimental dichotomy that echoes, clearly, especially in the female figures that are his subjects, usually investigated beyond their fascinating appearance as far as those most foreign inner places where the controversial scraps of existence are deposited”.
(Giovanni Faccenda, 2012)

The stroke and material in the painting are articulated with the same expressive force, with a respect for form that confirms a research conducted towards that lump of emotions, thoughts and impulses that others call soul: it is not the quest for a harmony filtered by reflection; you can feel that the painter wants to strike accurately, wastes nothing, and when he adds something more, one feels the pleonasm, because there is a sharpness and lucidity of thought, a firm determination of the image that he wants to achieve”.
(Nicola Nuti, 1999)

“After thoroughly studying the great Florentine Masters, he seems to have assimilated from them the leaning towards a painting tied to his intrinsic qualities, not to leave out a very important element, drawing”.
(Miriam Giustizieri, 2009)

“Tiziano Bonanni’s painting tends toward withdrawal and reflection and presupposes a project executed on a conceptual basis. It is painting that is conceived beyond commotion. It is no accident that it is based on the analytical and structural function of the drawing, which in his case remains the primary instrument of investigation and the organizing principle of space and form. Even in the versions that are optically more still and compact, Bonanni has fevers, his combustions, his primal latencies including the underlying and diffused push toward annihilation, the irresistible attraction – however much it has been exorcised or sublimated – of emptiness and death”.
( Nicola Micieli, 2004 )

Working in the very body of the figure, he does not need symbolic spheres, he can add endlessly, bundle it, thanks to a sophisticated technical control, with the most varied expressive modes: sculpting, painting, drawing, ending in the ready-made and even in installation. In this one could call it Baroque, except that the attraction for the non-finished transforms it into aspiration to the in-finite. It succeeds, by virtue of an innate (I would call it genetic) classic sense to remain ancient. It makes us believe in the myth of artistic creation, for the intrinsic beauty of this and not through rational and intellectual persuasions”.
( Fabio Norcini, 2014 )
